Max Weinberg is inducted into The NJ Hall of Fame

New Jersey is home for some of the most talented in entertainment and sports, business, philanthropy as well as in the arts and business.

Max Weinberg is an excellent example of all these areas. He could be inducted into the New Jersey Hall of Fame each of these areas.

Max Weinberg, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame E-Stret Band drummer, is inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He was inducted along with Bruce Springsteen and the rest of E Street Band into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014. The ceremony of induction will take place on October 20, 2022.

Max was born in Newark, NJ and raised there. Max has allowed me to speak with him and host many charity events.

One conversation I had was about Max’s musical influences. Max said that he got hooked on the drums after watching Elvis’ drummer, the great D.J. Fontana performs live on television. Fontana was 6 years old when he received a congadrum. He made a belt for it and began to play.

He was a teacher and was volunteering at weddings and bar mitzvahs. Max was invited to join his class and became a local star for children. Max said that music was his way of gaining acceptance from his friends. It opened Max up to new possibilities and enabled him to explore a whole different world.

Bruce Springsteen held an open audition after Vini Lopez, drummer for E-Street Band, left the band. This was when Bruce started writing. “Born to Run”Bruce had spent months working on the title song and hired Boom Boom Carter to drum for Born to Run. Max was hired and he performed on the rest of the album’s classic cuts.

Max purchased a 5-acre parcel in Monmouth County. He also read books about architecture and design while on tour. He was able build his own home and offer advice to his family.

Max developed tendonitis that was affecting his drumming, recording, and playing. Max needed to be treated and rested. Max was well rested and healed by the time Born in America began. He could bang the drums for three hours per night and performed on a long, difficult tour that took his all over the world.

Mighty Max and The Max Weinberg 7, his band, were the house bands. “Late Night with Conan O’Brien” and in 2010 after O’Brien decided to move to another network Max decided not to join him.

Max had heart problems and was admitted to the hospital for a while. Jay took over the drums, replacing Max as Hall of Famer. Jay is also the drummer in Slipknot.

Max has been a great help to New Jersey by giving his time, talents and money. Max was a champion for conservation within Monmouth County. He also gave a lot the Lakehouse Academy, where Max mentored and taught young musicians.

I’m thrilled that the New Jersey Hall of Fame has decided to honor Max and proud that he’s such a big part of our music community. Congratulations Max!
