BACKGROUND. Coronavirus disease (COVID-19), which is caused by SARS COV2, a highly transmissible viral infection that can be fatal, was first discovered in December 2019 in Wuhan. It became a severe pandemic three months later.
OBJECTIVE : To identify scientific evidence regarding the use of face shieldsduring the COVID-19 epidemic period.
METHOD: An integrative literature search of articles from PubMed and Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literatures, (CINAHL), and Web of Science databases were conducted. You can use specific keywords and controlled descriptors for your search. “face shield,” “fluid resistance procedure,” “respiratory infections,” “healthcare workers,” “COVID-19,” “aerosols,”And “personal protection infection” were used.
RESULTS: The study sample consisted of seven studies. The evidence has shown that face shieldsThey do not have a standard for production. Their effectiveness is dependent on the quality of the visor, structure and fixation system. They should be used as adjuvants for other personal protective equipment (PPE). Their isolated use is not recommended because of the fragilities of peripheral. faceSealing is important, especially during the COVID-19 epidemic period.
CONCLUSION face shieldsThey can be identified if they meet production criteria and are supported by scientific evidence of their efficient use.
